170. Wauwinet, Nantucket (Part 2)

Week 170  9/30/18 - 10/6/18

Here are some photos taken near our cottage. This is a view from our porch toward the Wauwinet Inn. We ate dinner there one night and watched the Patriots game.

I think these birds are plovers.

Andy and I sometimes watched Paul and Charlie fish from the beach on the ocean side. We read, did crossword puzzles, drew and knit.

This stairway is right behind the cottage. You can see the roof behind. I like to sit at the top of the steps and eat my cereal first thing in the morning.

We bought a special pass to allow Charlie's 4-wheel-drive truck in the Coscata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge just north of where we stayed. He needed to deflate his tires too.

Fishing was great everywhere, including the wildlife refuge, but seals kept almost everyone from getting the fish. Seals (mostly gray seals but also harbor seals) waited in the surf near each person fishing and usually grabbed the fish off the line. Apparently sometimes they chase fish onto the shore if someone manages to get it that far. The seals can move fast and weigh up to 750 pounds so they always win.

Paul and I rode in the bed of the truck on the way to the refuge.

I chatted with a young couple about wanting to see a seal when it was resting on shore. After we parted, I looked back to see the man proposing marriage to the woman on one knee.  Awwww.

This is my best shot of a seal. We saw many, and also some ocean sunfish which are very large and have a flipper that looks like a shark fin.

I brought along supplies for needle felting and Andy loved doing this.

Charlie also made a mug mat.
