198. Oh! Baby!

Week 198  4/27/19

Well, you can't beat an event like this one. Paul and I became grandparents when Oscar Arthur Atwood-Slovick was born to Gillian and Ben at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

We got the word that Gillian was on her way to the hospital on Thursday night and we arrived there around 3:30 AM. It was a long slow and difficult process but Gillian was up to it all and managed with amazing attitude. We were able to visit with the two of them intermittently but near the end we waited nearby with Murray. We finally got the call from Ben that they had a son and his name is Oscar.

Oscar had a temporary issue with ruptured air sacs in his lungs that put him the neonatal ICU for  a couple of days, but it resolved itself quickly and he was able to breathe room air within a day.

After the family came home, Paul stayed another day and then drove back to Medway. I stayed on until the next Sunday to help out. Our lives have changed forever with this wonderful boy as part of it.

197. Art and Craft also spring crawlies

Week 197  4/18/19

We went to Concord NH because we heard that the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen was having an exhibition. There was a permanent art exhibit, a special show where visitors could vote, and an exhibit by New Hampshire woodworkers.

This blue platter was my vote for best in show.

On April 20 we took a vernal pool walk at Wennekeening Woods. It was raining and only Paul, Nick and I showed up. The expert had gathered some eggs of various salamanders, frogs and dragonflies

196. Boardwalk walk

4/13/19

It's early spring, a sunny day and time for us to visit the Dave Hoag boardwalk and nearby trails. Paul had an ulterior motive to do some measuring for a new boardwalk in the planning stages. The new one will help connect existing trails to Lovering Street which will allow further access to the Idlebrook trail, Bettania and the rail trail.

195. Retail Adventure

4/5/19  Wegmans

This is a bit weird as an adventure but we get to make the rules here. Paul and I don't frequent grocery stores as often as most people we know because we get a CSA share from May to mid-winter, we grow and put up our own vegetables and fruit and we get many items delivered from a dairy. So a visit to the new superstar grocery store in Natick counts as an adventure for us. We have a couple of items to shop for but wanted to see what the fuss is about, the shopping cart escalator, possibly some interesting produce, and to eat at the extensive food court.

Mostly it was OK but we won't bother eating at the food court again. The food was actually quite good but the eating area was noisy and distracting as such places usually are.
